Indeed, the situation could be that dire. The world as we know and have known is being robbed of the natural or let me say organic intellect with the premise of enhanced productivity and efficiency where it all started. Ever since the transition from the industrial age to the current information age or now more precisely the AI age began, we’ve been pushing our creations to work for us. Even if it’s about generating something!
We no longer want to do anything with our intellect anymore. We want it to rest. Now that we’ve got the most significant creations out of it, the AI of course. Let’s put it to work, instead of putting our grey matter to work. Let it provide us all the answers that we previously used to find through research and testing of our own that made us knowledgeable.
Now that we can improve the AI’s learning capabilities, why waste time and effort in gaining knowledge? Even if the answers are a creation of AI’s own capabilities, they’re answers nonetheless! Answers that we can then quote and use even if these turn out to be false later. We’ll have our fanciful moment to brag about; that we are good at using AI!
And mind you, human intellect is still there. Even if it has regressed to asking and rephrasing questions. Asking the right questions is how AI is being evolved. Even if those ‘right questions’ means that it is doing the thinking for us. We perfect it by reviewing its solutions and modifying our questions. Or maybe we’re perfecting ourselves through AI!
And that too only AI can tell if it is us being perfected. And that’s the tell all! AI being in control of the intellect. Efforts are on to imprison human intellect. Engaging with AI for everything we want to do in and with our lives is now our best bet. Be it solution to a problem, doing my work for me, being creative, need to generate something from scratch, determining work strategy and approach, analyzing and reviewing, validating a human creation, it is AI that should be doing it, not us.
Ultimately, what should I do and what questions I should ask! Indeed, we’re going back in circles. Not exactly getting anywhere. The questions that needed to be asked about everything including AI and resolved outside AI are being asked from the AI. It shouldn’t then be surprising if we’re creating a self-serving beast. In our effort to perfect it, we’re conceding the space that was reserved for human intellect.
And we’re still content with this invasion of the space that was meant for our intellect, our creativity and our imagination. We envision a future where AI would be the intellect, our creative lead and lead us to whatever it could imagine. But hey, why is there some commotion about this? It’s feeble but it surely is!
Ahh! We got a plan for a peaceful coexistence? Our intellect and AI to go hand in hand? Kind of a comforting thought? What is it? Human First they say! It should be a product of human intellect first and foremost, then maybe AI is used. Maybe to check if humans got it right!
As comforting as this ‘Human First’ sounds, why was their ever a need for it to be coined and used? Was AI ever first? Could there ever be AI first? In this tale of chicken and egg, the chicken definitely came before the egg. Human intellect sowed the seed for AI; it wasn’t the other way around.
But AI proponents would now want you and the generations to come to think and believe that AI could be there first. In fact, for them AI should always be there first. And human intellect more of a bottom feeder, regressed to putting AI to work, because human intellect could go wrong, or because its lazy or because it has so many other material things to do!
So, let’s now get to some serious questions. And though the AI protagonists would use AI to answer these questions, and they can look away at any time, I insist they read my humane attempt to their answers!

Which major risk has AI ever avoided? Did it avoid pandemics? Did it avoid conflicts? Did it avoid natural disasters and catastrophes? |
It hasn’t. It has not been able to prevent any risk. The risk management strategy and approach remains as human as ever. In fact, added to the inventory of risks are the disasters misuse of AI’s potential have created, primarily from Generative AI. Be it limited to cybersecurity or as widespread as existential. |

None. The risk management is still dependent on controls fulfilling the costs and benefits equation, determination of risk capacity thresholds and tolerances. AI’s use has not been more than that of a data analysis application. Even the identification of potential controls is a product of human intellect as it is dependent on the very iteration of each identical situation. And more human effort is being asked for to mitigate the risks from use of AI! |

From humans. From how humans want them to be. From how humans want them to work. From the data produced by humans. |

If the protagonists think the answer to this is yes or could be yes in the future, CEO’s of the entities developing AIs must have themselves replaced! |

HR Costs of course! But what about human, societal and economic costs owing to rising unemployment, required upskilling, natural resources requirements for cooling of the AI based datacenters? |
The AI protagonists might argue that the issues listed above emanate from the human’s use of AI, they aren’t an issue with the AI and that I would say settles the fact that AI could never be first!
AI is data prone and data fed. Data that’s created by humans. Data that comes first. Well, it also feeds itself the data that it creates! And that’s what’s called inbreeding. More about it here. And who is to ensure if data being fed is relevant? If the data is organic? If data is not being churned out artificially as well?
And is being data-driven the ultimate approach? What about experience? What about inclinations? What about assessments and judgments? Even the making of financial information, the ultimate business reporting to this date is still dependent on human assessments and judgments required to be disclosed for the users of financial statements.
And if AI could strategize our ideation, planning and work approach for us, why pay us? Especially the top management executives with their fat paychecks? Why not then invest in AI only? Why not replace Boards and executives all with AI? Do we get paid for being good at AI? Or do we get paid for our skills and harnessing the power of AI the way we deem fit?
Thus, to the AI protagonists, if we as humans are imperfect, none of our creations could be different (read better than us!)
So, there’s only one equation to any workflow be it ideation, strategy, blueprint, approach, process, operation, activity, transaction, system, whatever! And that is Human to AI to Human. Because it begins with us and it ends with us. And its for us to decide when and in what form and if we’re to use AI. And that’s us putting AI in its place. The future of intellect is ours and is for us to decide!
The wish for war was ahead of Claude the whole time. Claude wasn’t used as a decision support system. It just led to the potential targets through a lightning speed based analyses of satellite imagery mapping weapons systems to potential targets. And in the process a school was tagged as a target!
Now that could’ve been a historical data error, that Claude didn’t make right!
It’s a dog. You’re the master. The dog can’t put you to work. You need to put it to work!

And those who think their survival anywhere is hinged on their use of AI, it is better to call themselves Chief AI operators and Chief AI executives rather than Chief Operating Officers and Chief Executive Officers, because then their thought process is not being put to the test, simply because they don’t have what it takes to trigger a thought process!
